As the windmills turn

Posted on Friday 8 August 2008

The McAdoo Wind Energy Project is all but up and running, or should I say “turning” (as in windmill blades), but I’m still waiting to hear something from Invenergy on when they expect to be in full operation. I attended a City of Spur Economic Development Corporation board meeting on Thursday where Barbara Bogart, marketing coordinator and member services representative at Caprock Telephone and a McAdoo resident, told me that 24 windmills began operation on Monday. Invenergy has told her they plan to be connected to the ERCOT grid by the end of the month. As for the number of local jobs added due to the project, the company is still shy one person in fulfilling their promise to hire eight people. Hopefully I will be able to share more in an upcoming issue of The Texas Spur.

The first time I saw all those redlights, on top of the windmills, blinking on my way home from Lubbock I thought McAdoo was being invaded by aliens. That or a new “district” was opening up.
