In continuous publication since 1909, The Texas Spur is the newspaper for Dickens and Kent Counties. Each week’s edition is printed on Wednesday and mailed on Thursday, and is available through subscriptions nationwide and on newsstands locally. Subscribers can receive the hard copy via snail mail, or the online edition via the Internet (see “Subscribe”). Each week’s online edition can be purchased individually (see “Latest Edition”).

Mr. Oran Rivers McClure (1878-1931) brought the first issue of the newspaper, dated October 29, 1909, by wagon from Rotan, Texas, where it was printed for distribution in the Spur area prior to the sale of town lots on November 1, 1909.

Following Mr. McClure’s death in 1931, the McClure family continued to publish the paper until it was sold in 1942. Today the newspaper is owned and published by Greg and Cindi Taylor who purchased it from Grady Joe and JoAnn Harrison on July 1, 1996. The Taylors have continued the tradition of hometown news coverage as set by the Harrisons in their 39-year tenure at The Texas Spur.
