In a Texas Spur article of Oct. 19, 2023, “Spur beekeeper Shipp passes,”we erroneously referred to newly appointed Dickens County Justice of the Peace Stella Carter as “acting” in her capacity. County Attorney Aaron Clements provided some useful clarification: though Carter may in due time seek election as J.P. in her own right, she had been duly authorized earlier in the month by the county commissioners court to fill the vacancy in the position.

Spur ISD discusses Superior FIRST rating in public hearing prior to board meeting

Prior to the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees on Oct. 23, 2023, Superintendent Craig Hamilton presented to the board in a 7 p.m. public hearing that Spur ISD had received a Superior Achievement Rating on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST Rating). The hearing concluded at 7:06 p.m.

A quiet, small gesture in the World Series

Be f o re Sa t u rday night’s World Series game, I didn’t know squat about Tommy Pham, the 35-yearold designated hitter for the Arizona Diamondbacks. A quick Internet search revealed that the veteran had moved around quite a bit in his nine-year MLB career, playing for seven different teams. Arizona had just picked him up mid-way through the 2023 season.

Citizens of Dickens County, I would like to thank you all for supporting me as Tax Assessor/Collector. I have truly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you. It has been a pleasure to serve my county and hope I have left it in a much better place than I found it.This notice is to inform the citizens of Dickens County that I will not be running in the upcoming election. I hope nothing but the best for this county and the new Tax Assessor/Collector.

It is time to hang up my spurs. I will not be seeking a fourth term as Dickens County Commissioner in PrecinctThree. I have thoroughly enjoyed and have been honored to serve for the past eleven years and will continue to represent my constituents through 2024. I sincerely want to thank each of you for your support and encouragement over the years. But, it is time to truly retire and make room for new and energetic blood on the court.
