Kudos to hospitals and doctors at year-end

of the big daily newspapers cautions us that the one present you don’t want to pass along to your kinfolks this Christmas is any of the various strains of respiratory illness going around—Covid-19, RSV, and the flu. They’re quite literally the gifts that keep on giving. And the one place you don’t want to spend your holiday vacation is in a hospital, it claims. Medical facilities are overcrowded with aforesaid maladies and also pushed to the limit with procedures scheduled before the end of the insurance year.

Correction

In the Spur ISD section of last week’s Letters to Santa, we made a goof—but after checking the pages again, we’re glad to see that it doesn’t appear we left anyone’s letter out! Instead, we omitted the heading to denote the Fourth Grade section—and mistakenly picked up letters from last year’s fourth graders. We regret the error and hope that Santa will simply bring extra gifts this year to those whose letters were inadvertently repeated.

Retiring senator named Secretary of State

Retiring state Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, has been named the next secretary of state by Gov. Greg Abbott. She replaces John Scott, who announced his resignation effective at year’s end.
