SEPTEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH Kent County Lions Club has begun a new program year by recognizing a Community Member of the Month. The first recipient was Kathy Lisenbee. Those who nominated her were quick to say that she is “always willing to help anyone in need for all the right reasons” ... “although she is retired and active in her hobby of barrel racing, she still finds time to volunteer at our ambulance service.”

AUSTIN—Gov. Greg Abbott has asked the Texas Legislature to increase the penalty for illegal voting, adding the item to the third special session now underway. However, House Speaker Dade Phelan, R- Beaumont, quickly rejected the proposal, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
