Western Texas College announces 12-week Fall Opportunity Session starting September 8

SNYDER— Western Texas College announced today that they will offer a twelve-week Fall Opportunity Session of online classes starting on September 8, 2020. Students at Western Texas College (WTC) and other colleges and universities can enroll in college courses for credit. The twelve-week semester will end before Thanksgiving.

USDA announces more eligible commodities for CFAP

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced last week that additional commodities are covered by the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) in response to public comments and data. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending the deadline to apply for the program to September 11, 2020, and producers with approved applications will receive their final payment. After reviewing over 1,700 responses, even more farmers and ranchers will have the opportunity for assistance to help keep operations afloat during these tough times.

NEXT PALACE MOVIE The Third Annual Back to School Movie for the Palace Theater is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. All Spur, Patton Springs and Jayton athletes and cheerleaders will be admitted free to the movie. The featured movie is “The Way Back” (2020), starting Ben Affleck, a story about a former high school basketball star who is grappling with his son’s death and alcoholism and comes back to turn his alma mater’s flailing basketball program into a successful one. BACK TO SCHOOL Students and teachers returning to Jayton- Girard ISD will have a glimpse of what construction workers have been doing all spring and summer. While crews are still hard at work on improvements to athletics facilities, the new (and newly landscaped) front entrance now features a sign-in desk at the main entrance, designed for security; enhanced teacher work area; and renovation of the library area.
