Amanda Carol Birdwell Hodges was born on May 10, 1983 to Clay and Martha Birdwell in Lubbock, Texas. She passed on Saturday, February 6, 2021, after a month-long battle with Covid-19. She was 37 years old and will be forever remembered as a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend.

Amanda was raised in Canyon, Texas, and had fond memories of life on her family’s ranch in West Texas. Amanda met her future husband, Brooks Hodges, in the fourth grade and grew up with him as next door neighbors and best friends.

After attending junior high, Amanda attended high school at Chatham Hall in Chatham, Virginia. Amanda missed Texas during her time in Virginia but valued the friendships she created with people from all over the world and the opportunity to understand life from other perspectives. Amanda attended Texas A&M and Texas Christian University, where she studied interior design.

Amanda treasured her family above all. She married Brooks Hodges in October 2007. Their son, Brooks Clay, was born in 2009, and daughter Charlee Pearl was born in 2015. She found much joy in assisting her husband in his role as general manager of the Pitchfork Ranch and loved to share her culinary talents. Her accolades included winning the ranch cast-iron cook-off multiple years, cooking for cowboys on the ranch, and hosting her friends and family. Above all, Amanda’s infectious smile, fun-loving “grab the bull by the horns” personality, and loving demeanor will forever be remembered.

Amanda is survived by her husband, Brooks Hodges; children, Brooks Clay and Charlee Pearl; mother, Martha Birdwell; three brothers, Grant (Carlye) Birdwell, Marcus Birdwell, and Blake (Elaine) Birdwell; mother-in-law Becky (Robert) Gross; father-in-law, Jerry (Kimmi) Hodges; brothersin-law Chad (Tonya) Hodges and Dan (Misty) Gross; and sisters-in-law Heather (Brad) Gruner, Margaret (Ty) Biggs and Cree (J.D.) Baxter. She was preceded in death by her father, Clay Birdwell; and her grandparents.

The family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance on Friday, February 12, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, in Lubbock, Texas.

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on February 13, 2021, at the Guthrie High School gymnasium in Guthrie, Texas.
