Barbara Jean Shaw was born on May 17, 1940, to Oma Clay and Velma (Gunnels) Clay in Spur, Texas. She passed away at the age of 84 on August 13, 2024, in Aspermont, Texas.

Jean attended school in Dickens and married Dennis Shaw on September 5, 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dickens. Jean worked at Johnson’s Greenhouse in Vega, Texas, for several years. She and Dennis owned and operated a grocery store in McAdoo and later a gas station in Dickens. She especially enjoyed cooking at the Dairy Queen, which she did for 18 years. She and Dennis took care of the Dickens Cemetery for many years and also delivered lunches for the Dickens Senior Citizens.

But her real love was for her family, both the Clays and the Shaws and especially Dennis and her daughter, Jeannie.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dennis, of almost 65 years; her daughter, Jeanne (Robby) Harris of Aspermont; two grandchildren, Craig (Kaylee) Harris of New Deal and Misty (Sean) Hill of Lubbock; eight great-grandchildren, Bryce and Kamryn Boatright, Caleb, Jackson, and Hunter Harris and Evie Hill. She is also survived by her brother, Alford (Joann) Clay; four sisters, Gail Roberts, Kathy Higginbotham, Martha (Clifford) Shipman, and Pat (Dewayne) Hart; four sisters-in-law, Judy Clay, Karla Clay, Lillie Davis and Flora Nixon; two brothers-in-law, Dean (Marie) Shaw and Bill McDowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Dexter Clay and Johnny Clay.

Any memorials can be made to the Dickens Cemetery Association or the Dickens Senior Citizens.
