Billy Bud Sims, 1932–2021
Billy Bud Sims passed away at Shawnee Medical Center in Shawnee Oklahoma, after a brief illness. He was 89 years old.
Born in Afton, Texas, he attended Patton Springs School and later Spur High School. While attending Spur High School, he lived in the now historic Spur Inn, which was owned and operated by his mother.
Bud began his career with the Lubbock Police Department in 1959 and was promoted to detective. He then spent many years as a teamster driving trucks. He retired from the teamsters and returned to law enforcement with the Oklahoma Capitol Patrol, where he retired with the rank of sergeant. Bud closed his career with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, where he retired as under sheriff.
Bud belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Jones, Oklahoma. He was a Shriner. He loved antique cars, and regularly drove his 1929 Model A in local parades.
Bud married Jo Ella (Willard) Sims, who preceded him in death. Bud is also preceded in death by his father, Dempsey W. Sims, Sr., mother, Emma Jennie Sims, and brother,
Dempsey W. Sims, Jr.
Bud is survived by his son Michael Sims, and wife, Diana, of Apopka, Florida; son Brett Sims, and wife, Louise, of Afton, Texas; son Gerald Cavener, Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Choctaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren Michael Cavener and wife, Tammy, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Aaron Sims and wife, Jessica, of Weatherford, Texas, Brandon Sims of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Brandi Smith, Trevor Cavener, Chelsea Cavener, Bethany Cavener, Jack Sims, Luke Sims, Ellie Sims and Dempsey Sims; and great-great-grandchildren Kain Cavener and Remington Smith.
