Charles Stinnett, 1935–2023
Charles Stinnett, 87, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed peacefully on April 6, 2023.
A visitation for family and friends was held Monday, April 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Giles McCoy Funeral Home in Aspermont, Texas. A service was held Tuesday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Aspermont Cemetery.
Charles was born September 21, 1935 in Anson, Texas, to Wes and Ocie Stinnett. He was raised in Girard, Texas, and graduated in 1954. He began working for Southwestern Bell in 1956, and married the love of his life, Roanna Parker, June 1, 1957. Together they raised three children, Charles Jr. (Jay), Reneé, and Wesley Todd. He was a volunteer umpire for Little League for 33 years, was a talented gunsmith for 60-plus years, and retired from Southwestern Bell after 37 years.
Ifyouwereluckyenough to know Charles, you knew you had a friend for life. He loved to fish and hunt (especially elk), was a talented woodworker, and was always trying to swindle his sisters out of “bullit money,” but more than anything he loved to sit and “tell a few lies” with anyone who would listen. He never found a football or softball game on TV that he didn’t have time for. He always had an open ear, and he was always ready to go on any kind of adventure. He was loved by all, and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his bride; one sister, Wanda McKinney; and twp brothers- in-law, Leroy Barnett and Weldon Rainwater.
He is survived by two sisters, Gracie Barnett of Boerne, Texas, and Janie Rainwater of Anson, Texas; his children, Charles Jr. (Jay) and wife, Rhonda Stinnett, of Sweetwater; Reneé and husband, Ted Ross, of Sweetwater; Wesley Todd and wife, Keri Stinnett, of Anson; his grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Lee Keller, of Belle Chasse, La.; Jaso, and wife, Rachel Stinnett, of Breckenridge, Texas, Joshua and wife, Katie Ross, of Sweetwater, Charlee and husband, Aaron Wentzel, of Lubbock, Texas, Logan Stinnett of Abilene, Texas, Megan Stinnett of Stephenville, Texas, Nick Villanueva of Anson; eight great-grandchildren, Bryson Keller, of Belle Chasse, La., Haylee, Raileigh, and Seth Stinnett, of Breckenridge, Texas, Slade Wilkinson of Sweetwater, Jonathan, Cash, and Jordan Wentzel, of Lubbock, Texas; and too many cousins, neices, nephews, and “almost kin” to list.
Pallbearers were Jay Stinnett, Todd Stinnett, Ted Ross, Jason Stinnett, Joshua Ross and Logan Stinnett. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Stinnett, Bryson Keller, Slade Wilkinson, Jonathan Ross, Seth Stinnett, Cash Wentzel and Jordan Wentzel Nick Villaneuva.
