Flora Mae Smith, 1930–2024

Flora Mae Smith was born May 23, 1930, to Irvin and Bessie Smith of Spur, Texas. She had three sisters, all of whom preceded her in death.

Ms. Smith passed Sunday, Dec.1, 2024, in the Kent County Nursing Home, where she had resided since September on hospice care.

She was a wife and homemaker, and she ran a daycare and did ironing for the public for many years. She enjoyed keeping children, she did it so long that she had kept three generations in many families.

Later in life she enjoyed working at Spur Senior Citizens Center and the Spur Sewing Factory. Her hobbies were baking, quilting, gardening, garage sales, playing games and walking, and she loved reading her Bible. She loved going to church, and she would on occasion sing a song for the congregation when asked to.

Flora gave birth to three daughters and four sons, and had adopted a daughter. She had 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held Friday, December 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home.

A graveside service was held Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Spur Memorial Cemetery Chapel under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
