Jean Boothe Sonnamaker, 1937–2024
Jean Boothe Sonnamaker, 87, of Spur, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Spur, Texas May 26, 1937 to Rada Boothe and the late John Boothe, who passed away six weeks before Jean wasborn.Shewasalifelong resident of Dickens County. Jean was a 1955 graduate of Spur High School. She married Charles Sonnamaker December 16, 1955. She was the mother of two daughters, Sherri and Cindi.
Jean retired from Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative after numerous years of service. She and Charles enjoyed supporting the Spur Bulldogs from the time they married, then continued their support of their daughters in Spur School activities.
Jean wanted to support shut-ins and helped start Saturday delivery of Meals-on-Wheels by local churches. She enjoyed being a member of the Spur Red Hat Society and the Parks Group.
Jean was an active member of the Spur Methodist Church. She served on several community boards, including Spur Cemetery Board, the Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative board of directors, and the South Plains Electric Cooperative Round-Up board.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sherri Cornett and fiancé Rusty Swan, of Lubbock; Cindi and husband Greg Taylor, of Spur; one niece, Annette Evers, and one nephew, Ken Starcher; a granddaughter and three great-granddaughters; one special great-niece; and two great-nephews who called her “Gran.”
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Grace Thomason; and a son-inlaw, Bo Cornett.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024 at the Spur Methodist Church. Interment will be at Spur Cemetery immediately following.
