Jerardo Towns Arroyos (Gerald), 1940–2022

JAYTON—Jerardo Towns Arroyos (Gerald), 81, of Jayton, Texas, passed away at home surrounded by family on February 26, 2022. He was born on December 19, 1940 in Brackettville, Texas, to the late Jose Maria and Julia Towns Arroyos.

Known affectionately as “Laly” to his family, he moved in the 1950s to Olton, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Josephine Saldivar. They moved to Plainview, Texas, where they resided for over 50 years. Laly was a highly sought after and skilled bricklayer. His bricklaying was his art and his passion. He owned his own masonry subcontractor business until he retired only because he physically could not do it any longer.

After his retirement and later move to Jayton, Laly enjoyed keeping busy by always finding something to fix up around the house, making custom barbecue grills and furniture, rock polishing, and most recently, leatherworking. He also loved taking road trips to visit his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He often said he did not need any sons because his six daughters were strong and made him proud.

Laly leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Josie (Saldivar) Arroyos, daughters Laurinda Rios (Tony) of Fort Worth, Texas; Suzanna Segura (Julian) of Jayton, Texas; Geraldine McClure (Dan) of Canyon Lake, Texas; Kathy Hernandez (Tom) of El Paso, Texas; Angelica Arroyos of Plano, Texas; and Veronica Garza (Lance) of Grand Prairie, Texas. Also cherishing his memory are his 25 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Laly is also survived by his brother Johnny Arroyos; his sisters Rafaela Diaz, Mary Carrasco, Josephine Ramirez, and Cathy Parker; and many, many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.

Laly is preceded in death by his brothers Thomas Gonzales, Jose, Lupe, Daniel, Erminio, and Julian Arroyos.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to everyone for the prayers, condolences, gifts, flowers and well-wishes during their time of bereavement.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spur at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
