Linda Sue Henderson, 1947–2021
Linda Sue Henderson (Alderman) died peacefully on January 18, 2021, at the age of 73.
Linda Sue Henderson was born on May 4, 1947, in Winfield, Kansas, to Jesse and Esther Finuf Alderman. She married her lifelong friend and the love of her life, Bobby Henderson, on May 1, 1977. After moving to Spur, Texas, she began working for Spur ISD and throughout the years spoke fondly of her time spent with the students and staff at the school in Spur.
Linda is survived by her husband, Bobby Henderson; children Chad Carmichael of Wilmington, N.C., Scott Carmichael (and wife Eileen) of Lubbock, Texas, Michelle Weatherton of Clarendon, Texas, Annette McCormick (and husband Justin) of Spur, Christi Cargill (and husband Jason) of Andrews, Texas; a sister, Debby Alderman; grandchildren Michael Henderson (and wife Kristin), Megan Day (and husband Derek), Bailey McCormick, McKayla Cartwright, Jonathon Cartwright, Kylie Nienstedt (and husband Cody), Jake Carmichael, Emily Carmichael, Julia Cargill and Jarod Cargill; one great-grandson; and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Esther Alderman, her sisters Julie Douglas and Janice Fletcher, and a daughter, Amy Jo Carmichael.
Linda was a quiet and softspoken woman, but one thing she was very vocal about was how much she loved her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she enjoyed spoiling them with shopping trips and always having their favorite foods ready whenever they came to visit. She was known for her famous grilled cheese sandwiches and apple pies. Whenever “Ma” made a dish, her kids would tell you they were quite certain no one could ever make it as good as she could.
Her favorite thing in the world was time with her family; whether it was fishing trips with her grandkids, cuddled up in her chair watching “Golden Girls” or old westerns, or playing a mean hand in cards against “Papa,” she was happiest when her family was around.
She also loved watching college basketball and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and it is very evident that she passed along her passion for sports to her family. Linda was an avid reader and spent a great deal of time reading novels and the Bible. Linda loved her husband, Bobby, with every ounce of her being. The laughter and joy they shared throughout the years is unmatched and apparent by all the time they spent together and their dances in the rain.
A graveside service was held 1:00 p.m. January 21, 2021, at the Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
