Maude Elizabeth Edwards Swaringen, 1932–2022

CROSBYTON—Maude Elizabeth Edwards Swaringen died in Crosbyton, Texas, on February 1, 2022 at the age of 89. Maude was born on October 8, 1932 to John and Winnie Darcy Edwards. Maude married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Cristol Swaringen, on June 22, 1951 in Dickens, Texas. They had two children, Vickie Lynn and Tommy Gale.

Maude was a farmer’s wife! She loved taking care of her family and farm by sewing, gardening and canning in the summer.

She was a member of Dickens Baptist Church for more than 65 years.

Maude is survived by her son, Tommy Swaringen, and his wife, Peggy, of Dickens, Texas. She had five grandkids, Kelly Smith and wife, Tami, of Liberty Hill, Texas; Tony Smith and wife, Elena, of Azle, Texas; Becky Fletcher and husband, Hadley, of Lubbock, Texas; Kevin Swaringen and wife, Alysia, of Dickens, Texas; and Amy Harris and husband, Lance, of Spur, Texas. Maude had 18 great grandkids and two great-great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Winnie Edwards; her husband of 69 years, Cristol Swaringen; and her daughter, Vickie Smith.

Services officiated by Rory Mosley were held Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas, followed by interment at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Texas, under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
