Rita Dement Brendle went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2024. She was born in Spur, Texas, to William Archie (Bill) and Sarah Marie Solley Dement on January 4, 1945. She was 79 years old.

Rita was a Spur High School graduate of the class of 1963. Soon after graduating, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Lee Brendle of Croton, Texas, on July 4, 1963. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.

She had one child, a son, Kevin Brendle (Rhonda) of Dickens and two grandchildren, Kaleb Brendle of Austin and Rachel Brendle Hase (Elliot) of San Angelo. Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Geneta Dement McAllister (J.W.) and Mazelle Dement Hammock (Robert); and four brothers, Hardy Dement (Alvina), Billy Ray Dement (infant), Dewey Dement (Linda) and Douglas Dement (Yvonne).

She is survived by three sisters, Pat Dement Lee (Obie) of Midland, Janice Dement Kearney (Mike) of Abilene and Rosa Dement Jones of Crowley, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Rita owned and operated a cleaning business in Lubbock, Texas, for many years before becoming a certified nursing assistant and serving as a home health service provider for Calvert Home Health. She will be remembered for years of managing and working with her family in the Caprock Café in Dickens, and for volunteering at the Dickens Senior Citizens and the Spur Food Bank. Her most important and beloved role was being “Mamaw.”

In everything she did she was a tireless, selfless servant to all who knew her. Rita loved people and was a dedicated Christian. She will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Dickens Senior Citizens Center. Family and friends can come and go throughout the day at the Dickens Senior Citizens Center.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dickens Senior Citizens.
