Thomas Alexander Smith, 1930–2022

JAYTON— Thomas Alexander Smith, 92, of Jayton, Texas, passed away October 26, 2022. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral home in Rotan, Texas. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the First Assembly of God Church in Jayton, with burial following in the Jayton Cemetery.

Thomas was born in Jayton to Joe and Bertie (Stanaland) Smith on October 18, 1930. He married the love of his life, Margaret Jolene Webb, on June 18. 1950. They were happily married for over seventy-two years. Thomas was a longtime farmer and was a member of the Jayton Farmers Co-op for over fifty years. He was a trustee at the First Assembly of God Church, where he played the guitar for over sixty years. His passion was his family, who will miss him dearly.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas Rayford Smith; and one grandson, Ty Gregory.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jolene Smith; two daughters, Tresa and husband, Delwin Gregory, of Sweetwater and Deborah and husband, Ed Townsend, of Amarillo; a sister, Imarie Meador; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
