Peggy Jolene Waddell, 1932-2020
A Celebration of Life will be held for Peggy Jolene Waddell on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Community Bible Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Peggy passed away on March 8, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Dickens County to Joe Martin Kidd and Pauline Ann [Turner] Kidd, on August 2o, 1932. She attended school at Dry Lake and Spur High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Reuben Darrell Waddell, on May 6, 1948, in Spur. After his enlistment in the army they made their home in Dickens County to pursue his passion of farming.
She shared his passion with her own farming of vegetable and flower gardens the rest of her life. She shared her gardening with many neighbors and family. She shared her love of flowers by working at area flower shop Smugglers Cove, Faye’s and Spur Floral. She also served her community by working as an EMT on the Dickens County Ambulance Service.
She is survived by two children, Rhea Darrellene Melton of Spur and Robert Dale Waddell (Loretta) of Cordell, Oklahoma. She is survived by two grandchildren, Serena Lester (Les) of Spur and David Melton (Daresa) of Brownfield, and one step-grandson, Brody Melton of Midland. She is survived by six great-grandchildren: Reace and Ryleigh Lester of Spur, Cory and Caleb Melton of Brownfield, and Lee Jones (Maranda) of Lubbock; and two greatgreat-grandchildren, Ryker and Moleigh Jones of Lubbock.
She has three sisters, Tennie Fry of Lubbock, Ineta Cannon (Harvey) and Dana Smith (Bill) of Spur; three brothers, James Kidd of Lubbock, Lee Kidd (Alice) of Spur, and Barry Kidd of Lubbock; one sisterin-law, Jerry Waddell Bowers of Haskell; a host of nieces and nephews and others who called her Nana too. She had one very special friend, Lewis Lawler of Spur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Pauline, husband Reuben, and one brother, Lynn Kidd; two brothers-in-law, Bill Fry and Jim Bowers; and one sister-in-law, Nan Kidd.
Family would like to encourage anyone to share an amusing story of their days with Peggy at the memorial service. Visitation will take place after the service. There will be no cemetery service. Serving as Honor Guard are Romero Rodriquez, Jay Lyle Thomason, Mickey Taylor, Craig Diddle and Tony Rodriquez.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial be made to the Dickens County Ambulance Service or a charity of your choice.
