Billy Don Whitaker, 1955–2021
Billy Don Whitaker, 66, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at his home in Dickens, Texas.
Billy Don, Bo, as most everyone knew him, was the oldest of four sons born to Billy Joe Whitaker and Beverly Thompson Whitaker. Bo was born on Monday, April 11, 1955, in Motley County. Bo was known to everyone who knew him as a cowboy.
Bo graduated from Texas Tech University and began his career as an agricultural extension agent. In the 1980s he settled in Dickens, where he worked for several years and where he met and married the love of his life, Donna Sue Whitaker, on June 28, 1985. Together the two of them positively impacted the lives of countless local youth through their dedication to the Dickens County 4-H Club.
After leaving the extension service he continued to work as a cowboy on numerous area ranches, where he collected a wide array of friends and acquaintances. There was never a place that you would go with Bo that someone did not know him. He never met a stranger, and if he didn’t know you when he got there, he would by the time he left.
Bo is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna Sue of Dickens; daughter, Kristy, and husband, Ruel Harold of Weatherford, Texas; five grandchildren: Shaleé, Cheyenne, Dana, Benjamin and Ashlynn; one great-granddaughter, Sara Jane; brothers Bobby Whitaker, Brent Whitaker and wife, Teresa, Burt Whitaker and wife, Lori; an uncle, Hoppy Hopkins; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Bo was a member of the Highway 70 Church of Christ in Spur.
Visitation was held 6:00– 7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton. Services were held graveside in Matador at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
