Curtis “Stanley” Whitefield, 1937–2021

IDALOU—Curtis “Stanley” Whitefield, of Idalou, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2021. A private service and interment were held on October 16, 2021 at Idalou Cemetery in Idalou. Cremation was under direction of Ben Zapata, Guajardo Funeral Home, Lubbock, Texas.

Stan was born to John P. and Stella Whitefield at their home in Motley County, Texas, in 1937. He graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1955. He married Clovis Coursey on October 1, 1955.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clovis Whitefield; daughters Donna Weir of Lubbock, Texas and Patricia Halliday of Idalou, Texas; grandson Lyle Austin Halliday and wife Phylicia of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughter Jessica Weir Price and husband James of Round Rock, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Rowan, Liam and Soren Halliday, all of Lubbock; and a brother, Jimmy Whitefield of Spur, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella; three sisters, Janice Dixon, Johnnie Vines Ellis and Cloe Garrett; two brothers, Alden “Whitey” Whitefield, and Harvey “Red” Whitefield; and grandson Matthew Jordan Halliday.

Stan owned and operated Stan’s TV and Appliance, and Spur Cable TV in Spur, Texas. He contracted, engineered, mapped and built the first cable televisio systems in an eleven-city area. He oversaw the management of those systems and retired as vice president of Star Cable TV Systems. Stan came out of retirement to oversee and maintain the grounds of Idalou Cemetery for 30 years.

Stan was a member of the Idalou Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Idalou Cemetery Association and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
