Justin Dee McCormick, 1970–2022
Justin Dee McCormick died unexpectedly in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the age of 51. Justin was born on June 25, 1970 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, to J.D. and Tommie McCormick. He graduated from Spur High School in 1988. He continued his education at a trade school to obtain his HVAC license. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Annette, on June 20, 1992. They moved to Afton, Texas, where he began helping his dad in the carpentry business. Over the next few years, they welcomed two beautiful daughters. Justin began working at White River Municipal
Water District in 1994 and continued working there until his death.
Justin enjoyed fishing and playing corn hole, but most of all, he loved to “trash talk,” and was sure to tell everyone he was the “All Star Quarterback.” He was constantly joking and kidding around, which would aggravate his wife and girls to no end. At the same time, he could give you the best advice, that would always make you stop and think, but was always supportive no matter what. It didn’t matter if Justin knew someone or not, he would always visit with people because he never met a stranger.
Above all else, he was very protective of his family, and was the best dad and “Ball” (as Layla would call him) to all of his girls. As for his wife and daughters: Annette will surely miss her best dance partner; Bailey will miss her football buddy; Kylie will miss her jokester buddy; and Layla will miss going on her daily trash trips on the UTV.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Annette, of Spur; his daughters, Bailey McCormick (fiancée Joseph Wegner) of Burton and Kylie Nienstedt (Cody) of Burton; one granddaughter, Layla, and another one the way; his mother, Tommie McCormick-Davis of Spur; his brother, Philip (Melanie) of Spur; and seven nephews and four nieces. Justin is preceded in death by his father, J.D. McCormick.
A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Dickens Cemetery, under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
