A service to celebrate the life of Coqueaze Redding was held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, with burial in the Girard City Cemetery, Girard, Texas.
Redding, 91, of Lubbock, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2023. Please visit www.memorialdesigners.net for a service broadcasting schedule, floral purchasing, and an area to share stories of Coqueaze with her family.
Coqueaze’s wonderful life began in Girard, Texas on April 8, 1932. Her parents were Artie and Gus Thomason. She grew up on a farm and attended schools in Spur, Texas. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Roy Welton Redding, born on May 20, 1932 in Mena, Arkansas. He passed away on March 15, 2021. What a testament to a wonderful life in that they were married 70 years. Coqueaze and Roy raised their family on the farm in Spur until moving to Lubbock in 1986. After retirement she enjoyed antiquing, traveling with the RV club, and playing 42 and bingo. She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Ruidoso with family and friends.
Coqueaze is survived by the following: her daughter, Veneace Steele (M.L.) of Lubbock, Texas; siblings Eloise Gunset (Jerry) of Snyder, Texas, Martha Edwards of Lubbock, Texas, and Dean Thomason (Terri) of Fairview, Ore.; grandchildren Nicole, Paul (Courtney), Laquita, Virginia, Austin, and Dylan; and many nieces and nephews. Coqueaze was most proud of her nine great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Artie and Gus Thomason; husband, Roy; sons, Dub Redding and Bently Redding; and brother-in-law, Ralph Edwards.
The family would like to express our gratitude to all the staff and caregivers at Wedgewood South for the excellent care given to Roy and Coqueaze and the love and care shown to us.
