Jim Bob Horn, 1941–2024
JimBobHorn diedpeacefully inhishomesurrounded by his children on February 19, 2024 in Spur, Texas, at the age of 82.
Jim Bob was born on May 3, 1941 in Spur, Texas, to Clyde Horn and Lena Garland Horn. By a chance meeting on the highway and whirlwind courtship of six months, he married his wife of 58 years, Barbara Marshall, on July 25, 1965. Jim Bob and Barbara built their home together at the site of the old Red Hill school, where they began their long life of growing cotton, cattle and boys. Jim Bob and Barbara welcomed Mark and Chris into their home and set about teaching them skills needed in life and farming. His family remembers him for his hard work, his conversation skills, his love for his family, friends and animals. He was never short of encouragement.
Jim Bob is survived by his two sons, Mark, of Trinidad, Colorado, and Chris and wife, Rachel, of Spur; five grandchildren, Joel of Katy, Texas, Athena and husband, Ian, of Cleveland, Ohio, Austin of Grand Junction, Colorado; Eoin of Spur, and Liam of Montgomery, Alabama; and two great-grandchildren, Hazel and Milo of Cleveland, Ohio.
Not wanting to be separated from her, Jim Bob was preceded in death by only six weeks by his wife, Barbara, of Spur. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Boone, of Mineral Wells, Texas, and parents Clyde Horn and wife, Lena, of Spur.
Jim Bob graduated from Spur High School in 1959 and joined the Air Force in 1960. After the Air Force he worked as an electrical lineman, putting up transmission line across the Texas big country. Jim Bob never got over his love for being outside and playing in the dirt, which is why farming was the life he chose. He loved his community and was never far away when someone was in need. Jim Bob could never pass up a coffee pot, and many joked that coffee was what flowed through his veins. Always putting others before himself, Jim Bob was never shy of a conversation or advice. He was quick with a joke and a nickname, and his passing leaves an emptiness difficult to fill.
A memorial is scheduled for Saturday March 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas. Rory Mosley will officiate the ceremony.
