Norman Hardy, 1941–2024
Norman Hardy, 83, of McAdoo, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2024, in Lubbock. Born on March 22, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas, to Marjorie and Harold Hardy, Norman had roots that ran deep in the heart of McAdoo. He attended McAdoo Schools, where his passion for basketball ignited. Norman proudly played on McAdoo’s inaugural basketball team to win the State championship in 1960, and later continued his basketball career at McMurry College on a scholarship.
On August 18, 1959, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Linda Thompson. They were married 64 years. Their union was blessed with three daughters: Susie (Lonnie) Kuss of Lubbock, Janie (Greg) DeTray of Palm City, Florida, and Kathy (David) Wallace of Dickens. Norman’s love extended to his grandchildren, Penny Havens, Wesley (Pamela) Havens, Shelby (Ben) Jones, Jordan (Brody) Radloff, Briana Marshall, Conner Smith and Lucky DeTray; and his seven great-grandchildren, Kiersten Gillie, Alivia Havens, Grayson Jones, Kaytlyn Dufek, Scarlett Jones, Colten Cox, and Davis Radloff. His sister, Gayle (George) Neaves of McAdoo. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Donna Stump of Graham, and Nancille (Kraig) Gallimore of Elgin, Texas, and leaves behind a niece, several nephews, and numerous loving cousins.
After two and a half years of McMurry College, Norman returned to McAdoo to farm, caring for his ailing father, Harold Doma Hardy. Alongside his farming endeavors, Norman and Linda established Hardy Cotton Company, where he served as an independent cotton merchant until retirement. He continued farming and earned a reputation for his meticulous care and innovative practices in agriculture.
Norman’s dedication to sports, especially basketball, was a significant part of his life. He also loved playing baseball in the fields with his friends when growing up. Norman enjoyed watching Westerns, hunting, and being a bit of a prankster. He loved to hunt and joke with his friends, and we are quite certain that he has reunited with those friends who went before him and is pulling pranks once again.
Norman was actively involved in his community, serving on several community boards, including McAdoo and Spur school boards. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton, Texas.

As his family and community gather to celebrate his life, may they find solace in the cherished memories they shared with Norman. Though he may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Memorial services for Norman will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton with Dr. Les Griffin and Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
