Ruben B. Garza, 1946–2024

Ruben B. Garza, 78, of McAllen, Texas, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2024 in Harlingen, Texas. Ruben was born on March 30, 1946 to Miguel and Maria (Bustos) Garza, in Robstown, Texas.

Ruben worked for many years as a truck driver before retiring. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Tejano and country; he would often say he “didn’t like any of that other mess.” He loved singing and would sing to Cris often. In his prime he loved to dance. You would often find Ruben watching old western movies and of course his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Ruben was a serious but very humble man who loved his family. He will be greatly missedbyallwhoknewand loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ofelia G. Garza; his son, Ruben Garza Jr.; his parents, Miguel and Maria Garza; sisters Sulema Olivarez, Gloria Perez and Maria De Jesus Garza; and brothers Eulogio “Carnalito” Garza Sr. and Roberto Garza.

Ruben is survived by his fiancé, Cris Cavazos; a sister, Maria Margarita Garza; brothers Miguel Garza, Jr. (Sofia Esther Garza) and Juan M. Garza; and many family and friends.

A visitation was held Wednesday October 2, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m.

A funeral mass was held Thursday October 3, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spur, Texas, and interment followed at Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
