In memory of the late Grady Joe Harrison, owner/publisher/editor of The Texas Spur from 1958 to 1996, and his late wife, Jo Ann, who served as advertising director during that time, the current Texas Spur staff are pleased to carry on the tradition of community involvement and service to the profession they exemplified.
Frittatas are one of my favorite ways to use up leftover bits of veggies, meat, or cheese. The eggy mixture pairs well with anything you would throw into an omelet, but a frittata is much simpler than making several individual omelets.
Deer. Those large, graceful animals with long, powerful legs and voracious appetites. A healthy deer needs to eat around 8 pounds of food each day for every 100 pounds body weight. A 150-pound deer would need to eat 12 pounds of food every 24 hours. That is a lot of green vegetation, and with our dry summer and autumn, any plants in our gardens make for good grazing.
Happy New Year, everyone! Last year left us with snow and ice, or 2021 came in with snow and ice—it’s just a matter of how you look at it. The year 2020 already has a reputation of not being very good to us, so I’m going to blame 2020.
Starting next week, The Texas Spur will revise its weekly map to indicate active, rather than all-time total, Covid-19 cases in our region. We’ll continue to provide statistics on total new, recovered, and all cases by county in the columns below the map, as well as the statewide totals.
Wow, this isn’ t really the way we expected 2020 to turn out, was it? Sure, we knew it would be a contentious election year; we prepared to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote; we anticipated filling out Census forms. We looked forward to a year of great vision.
In a Dec. 26 brush fire south of Spur, retiring fire chief Rick Pashcall piloted the Spur Volunteer Fire Department’s new brush truck, delivered earlier in the month, in successfully containing the blaze with 3 other units. STORY, PAGE 6 THE TEXAS SPUR
