On November 2, 1920, radio station KDKA, Pittsburgh, made the nation’s first commercial broadcast. They chose that date because it was election day, and the power of radio would be proven when people could hear the results of the Harding-Cox presidential race before they read about it in the newspaper.

South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up has opened its Community Grant application online. The Community Grant is available for local non-profit organizations that serve members in the Cooperative’s service territory. The Operation Round Up Board will award up to 10 grants. Each grant is up to $1,500 and the application period is from September 18–October 2. Applicants can apply online at SPEC.coop.
