NEW FACE IN CODES COMPLIANCE John Schmidt (above right), who served the City of Spur the past six years as codes compliance officer after previously retiring from a different career, announced his retirement from the city at its May council meeting, during which Clinton Stinson (at left) was hired to succeed him. Though the initial plan was for Schmidt to remain on the job for a few more weeks to train his replacement, Schmidt moved up his date and has stepped down as of May 31.

The keyboard font Times New Roman is used for business and professional writing. When a sixth grader does a PowerPoint presentation, he or she wants to go big. Rockwell Extra Bold was a favorite of many of my ambitious 12-year-olds. A few students chose an understated Calibri Light or Bookman Old Style. Even I am subject to the whim of selecting a font. When composing a more informal email or letter, my choice is Comic Sans MS, which mimics my own handwriting.
