In the monthly meeting of the Dickens County Commissioner’s Court on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, trustees approved the resignation of Dickens County AgriLife Extension Agent Thomas Boyle, who has accepted a similar position in Erath County, and agreed that county judge Kevin Brendle would oversee the position until a replacement was hired.

Snow, ice, single-digit temps blanket the state

AUSTIN—Texans from Lubbock to Longview shivered under single-digit temperatures as their week began, with snow and ice creating dangerous road conditions throughout the state. Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for all 254 Texas counties and urged residents to stay alert to changing weather conditions. The Texas Division of Emergency Management deployed resources from various state agencies to prepare roadways, assist motorists, remove downed trees and perform search-and-rescue operations if necessary.

Kent commission transfers $1.6 million to JGISD for last phase of improvements; takes delivery of new ambulance

In its regular meeting of January 25, 2021, Kent County commissioners designated the Kent County Senior Citizens Center as beneficiary of the Mozart wind power project’s annual $10K donation; discussed a matter concerning an oil company’s lease on the county’s school lands; and heard a report from Kent County Nursing Home Bobby Simpkins, indicating a patient census of 39 residents. The court also approved a payment from permanent school funds to Jayton-Girard ISD for capital improvements in the amount of $1,666,384.82.

Rep. Jackson to co-chair Texas Agriculture Task Force in the 117th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC—Earlier this month Congressman Kevin Brady (TX-08), dean of the Texas delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives, named Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) as a co-chair of the Texas Agriculture Task Force. The task force will advocate for Texas agriculture priorities in the House, ensuring the delegation presents a united front in advancing policy positions. The ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania, welcomed the news of Texas’ united efforts on agriculture.

New candidate files for JGISD school board

Friday, Feb. 12 is the last day to file for area city councils and Jayton and Spur school boards. A new candidate, Ron Redford, filed for a JGISD school board, and no candidates have filed as of yet for the Jayton City Council.
