Dairy-free Green Goddess a twist on 1920s classic

Goddess salad dressing was created in the 1920s by Chef Philip Roemer at the Palace Hotel. It was intended to honor actor George Arliss, who was staying at the hotel in San Francisco and starring in a play called “The Green Goddess.”

This past Saturday started out a nice spring morning for the annual Highway 70 yard sales, but the blistering heat of the afternoon felt more like summertime. Tommy and I decided to set up some sale items in the library parking lot this year.

Highway 70 Yard Sale could reach 50 locations this year

As of Monday, 25 yard sales have been reserved for the Spur, Dickens and Jayton areas for the Highway 70 Yard Sale on Saturday, May 6, according to coordinator Joan Day of Spur. This time last year there were 20 sales reserved for the Dickens and Kent county areas by Monday, and that higher number indicates the sales may be even stronger this year.

Election day May 6 for area school boards, city councils

Election Day is Saturday, May 6. In Dickens County, the City of Spur, Spur ISD and the City of Dickens will not be holding elections. All three entities have unopposed candidates on the ballots, and have voted to cancel elections.
