Dickens, Jayton to hold contested elections; Spur, so far, might not

At press time, early Tuesday afternoon, the Spur City Council and the Spur Independent School District were facing uncontested elections. Texas election law, per the Secretary of State’s office, allows write-in candidates to file on the next business day until 5 p.m. after the filing deadline.The deadline to file for municipal and school elections was Friday, Feb. 17. However, because Monday, Feb. 21 was a holiday for most government and municipal offices and some school offices in 2023, the statutory deadline for write-ins was Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 5 p.m.

In this dry February it is important to remember birds. They need fresh water and a food source, not just any food source, but one that is high in fats. The usual source from which birds get their fat is from the insects in their diet. But with our dry winter, even insects may be hard to come by. Black oil sunflower seed is a good source of fat but a better source of fat is suet.
