Taylor Sheridan’s ‘1923’could inject nearly $52M into area economy, city of Austin says

AUSTIN— Taylor Sheridan’s “1923,” which plans to use Austin as a base for filming throughout Texas later this year, is projected to pump nearly $52 million into the local economy and create 200 direct jobs and more than 150 indirect jobs, according to the city of Austin.

Allen wins Dickens sheriff runoff, headed to general election in November

In unofficial election results last Tuesday night, Jay Allen came out ahead 57.17% to Jerry Schmidt’s 42.83% in a months-long primary race for Dickens County sheriff runoff, according to county clerk Danay Carnes.

Spur sets Independence Day celebrations

The Spur Volunteer Fire Department is once again planning an Independence Day fundraiser for Saturday, July 6, in Swenson Park. A fireworks display is slated for dark; festivities also include a hamburger/hot dog meal starting at 7 p.m., and a homemade ice cream contest sponsored by Dickens County–Spur Library ($10 to enter, $1 to taste and judge). Donations are needed to cover the cost of fireworks, according to fire chief Wess Abbott.
