Jayton boys win Area playoff, set for Regional Quarterfinal Tuesday, March 1

The Jayton Jaybirds boys’ varsity basketball team defeated the Garden City Bearkats 53–42 Friday night in Colorado City in the area playoff game.

TACS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE

TACS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE The Jayton team of Joel Williams, Caydence Benedict and Cody Redding received 4th place at the State TACS Academic Challenge on Sunday. Each student will receive a scholarship worth more than $600 a piece for their efforts today. Darla Harrison was the team sponsor.

PATTON TENNIS HONORS

PATTON TENNIS HONORS Last Thursday Patton Springs ISD earned honors at the South Plains tennis tournament. Athletes placing in the competition were Kinley Chandler and Melania Ramirez, girls doubles, 2nd place; Devon Reyna and Diezel Ramirez, boys doubles, 2nd place; Mike Garza, boys singles 3rd place; and Toryan Childers, girls singles, 3rd place.

Early voting robust in Dickens, Kent counties

Early voting was intense in Dickens County, according to acting district clerk Danay Carnes. 227 Republicans voted early, and 15 Democrats cast early ballots.

FROZEN OUT For the third week in a row, residents of Dickens and Kent Counties and surrounding areas woke to frigid temps and icy precipitation. Schools in the area were closed or delayed Wednesday and Thursday.
