Dickens 4-H members donate 500 hours of labor during school year

POP TABS FOR CHARITY On Sunday, May 7, 16 members of the Dickens County 4-H club traveled to Lubbock to donate more than 20 pounds of aluminum can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. While there, they also did some lawn work and inside chores.They scrubbed the kitchen, swept, mopped and disinfected the play room. Afterwards they enjoyed some recreation at Main Event and dinner at Raising Cane’s to celebrate the end of a year of hard work. This past year, the Dickens County club performed 16 different community service activities benefitting nine different organizations and donated over 500 hours of labor.

JGISD superintendent Sheets to depart for Frenship

Layne Sheets, superintendent since 2021 at Jayton-Girard ISD, has been named assistant superintendent of secondary education at Frenship ISD, he told The Texas Spur. JGISD trustees accepted his resigation at their May 15 board meeting.

First Baptist Jayton announces new pastor

The First Baptist Church of Jayton has announced that Blake Appleby will be their new pastor. Jake Edwards, the church’s previous pastor for more than six years, accepted a call to Pottsboro in May 2022. (Edwards also earned his Doctor of Divinity degree last month from Liberty University.)

SPAGHETTI SUPPER Dickens County 4-H will be holding a Spaghetti Supper on May 23, 6-8 pm at the Dickens Senior Center. The $10 cost includes spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert. There will be to-go boxes also. Along with the meal there will be a silent auction. You may purchase tickets from any 4-H member, or at the door.
