Candy Bar Bites a fun snack to make—and much

fun ways to keep up with food trends. One of the best pasta sauces I’ve ever made was the one I wrote about using an idea from TikTok. It was a baked red sauce with a block of feta or cream cheese in the middle of a bunch of tomatoes. Baked and stirred together with some herbs and seasonings, it becomes a luxurious, rich sauce that we enjoy over any type of pasta.

Each of these vegetables can be grown in our growing area and may complement a summer garden. Gardeners who like to experiment with unusual crops may want to try one or more of these greens.

Dickens 4-H seniors win scholarships

County 4-H members will be heading off to college with their wallets a little fuller this fall. Gunnir Bateman and Melania Ramirez were both recipients of Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarships.

David “Dave” Fitzgerald, 1965–2023

David “Dave” Fitzgerald died unexpectedly in his home on May 4, 2023, in Henderson, Nevada, at the age of 57. David was born on September 10, 1965, in Hamlin, Texas, to Benny and Catherine Fitzgerald. He graduated from Spur High School in 1984. He attended Texas Tech University.
