LUBBOCK— South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up opened their Community Grant application for the third year. The Community Grant is available for local non-profit organizations that serve members in the Cooperative’s service territory. Each grant is up to $1,500 and the application period is from September 19-September 30. Applicants can apply online at SPEC. coop/operationroundup.

Since May 2022, when pastor Jake Edwards accepted a call to serve a church elsewhere in Texas, Jayton’s First Baptist Church has been formulating plans for a pulpit search. On their social media this week, the congregation posted an official notice of a search.

deer this fall in the Texas Panhandle should be aware that an antler restriction has been expanded from the original 7 counties of Briscoe, Childress, Cottle, Floyd, Hall, Motley and Lynn counties to an additional 21 counties that will include: Andrews, Armstrong, Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Dawson, Donley, Foard, Gaines, Hale, Hardeman, Hockley, Lamb, Lubbock, Martin, Parmer, Randall, Swisher, Terry, and Yoakum. The antler restriction regulation in 28 counties prohibits the harvest of any mule deer buck with a main beam outside spread of less than 20 inches.
