Key dates to note for November election

November’s general election day will be Tuesday, November 8—just a little over a month away—so here are some important dates for all voters to keep in mind. Voter registration deadline is Tuesday, October 11. Early voting begins Monday, October 24 and ends Friday, November 4. The last day to receive an application for a ballot by mail (ABBM) or a federal post card application (FPCA) is October 28. For faxed ABBMs or FPCAs or emailed ABBMs, the fourth business day after October 28 will be Thursday, November 3. Mail ballot return deadline for regular ABBMs is Wednesday, November 9 at 5 p.m., if postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Mail ballot return deadline for military and overseas voter using an FCPA is Monday, November 14.

Headliner announced for 70th Annual Spur Homecoming Dance Oct. 8

Tanner Lane, along with his Tanner Lane band, will present the show at the 2022 Spur Homecoming dance. Lane is a native of Plainview, Texas, and is married to Colette (Goodall) Lane, Spur class of 2012.

SpurVFD to accept donations for Rickels bricks on Saturday

Thanks to the generosity of Dennis and Terri Wyatt, the Spur Volunteer Fire Department has a few of these special 1922 bricks salvaged from the Rickels automobile dealership building. Fire ChiefWess Abbott says the VFD will have a table set up at the firehouse site at Third and Burlington on Saturday to accepting donations to acquire a brick. Stop by and see them!

Reblooming poinsettias in time for Christmas

Texas Spur readers who saved their poinsettias from last Christmas should start now to initiate the flowering process for this season. Botanically, the showy structures of poinsettias are modified leaves, called bracts, while the flower of a poinsettia is the small yellow blossom in the very center of the plant. The small indistinct flower is surrounded by the showy colorful, usually red, bracts.
