The Spur Ranch Church building, more than 100 years old, was moved October 7 over highways from Brownfield to Lubbock, where it has now become the 52nd historic structure at the National Ranching Heritage Center—and the outdoor museum’s only house of worship.
In the Kent County Attorney election, Bill Ballard, a Democrat who has served for eight and a half years, is being challenged by Katie Lackey, a Republican. The Texas Spur sent questionnaires to candidates requesting information on background, experience, interests, and goals for public office.
The Gamma Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its first meeting of the 2020–21 school year at Latta Hall, First United Methodist Church, Crosbyton.
At a special meeting of the Spur City Council October 2, bids for water and sewer improvements were opened and reviewed. All seven bids were rejected, however. According to city secretary Barbie Norman, the closest bid was $92,000 over budget, and the highest bid was almost $300,000 over budget.
Sauerkraut isn’t a dish that most people I know serve very often. But there are a handful of folks in my family who happen to love it. And one would think with my husband living in Germany for as long as he did, he would be crazy about sauerkraut; not so much. But that’s okay, he likes the other items that go with it. We primarily serve it on hot dogs, or alongside links of smoked German sausage.
Fall is an ideal time to plant new perennials, shrubs, and trees, although spring is the usual season for setting out plants—nurseries have restocked, plants are vigorously growing, and their appeal is difficult to ignore.
