Gamma Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is proud to announce that Hanna Gonzalez of Spur has been selected by the Alpha State Texas Educational Foundation (ASTEF) to receive a $500 Aspiring Educator Grant. Gonzalez is a sophomore majoring in early childhood education at Texas Tech University. Her plans are to be a K–2 teacher following graduation. Gonzalez is a 2019 Spur High School graduate and the daughter of Freddy Gonzalez and Jodi Gonzalez of Spur.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 20, according to social media posts by numerous neighbors and church members, the Stonewall County Volunteer Fire Department was called to the First Baptist Church of Aspermont, where around midnight, flames were already burning fiercely. By 1 a.m. the weakened structure gave way, and the roof collapsed. Although a tragic loss for the community of Aspermont tonight, no injuries have been reported. Neighbors nearby wondered if an electrical storm which was going on at the time played a role in the fire.
