In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 20, according to social media posts by numerous neighbors and church members, the Stonewall County Volunteer Fire Department was called to the First Baptist Church of Aspermont, where around midnight, flames were already burning fiercely. By 1 a.m. the weakened structure gave way, and the roof collapsed. Although a tragic loss for the community of Aspermont tonight, no injuries have been reported. Neighbors nearby wondered if an electrical storm which was going on at the time played a role in the fire. Church members planned to hold Sunday services in their adjacent Family Life Center, which was reportedly not damaged. COURTESY PHOTOS
