IT’S A GAS, GAS, GAS The Texas Spur had just inquired Oct. 9 with Legacy Fuels owner Brandon Williamson of Abilene regarding the status of the company’s long-awaited fuel pumps in Jayton—when two days later, a Jayton traveler reported the pumps open for business. Williamson said that after extensive work to rebuild data infrastructure to process credit cards, followed by numerous inspections and repairs, the only remaining roadblock was one last clearance from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, which had been applied for about three weeks prior. Fuel was in the tanks as of last week and ready to go as soon as the approval was received—and we can assume by a successful transaction that gas sales have been greenlighted again. The pumps—the only public fuel in the county, at present—had been idle since the closure of the cooperative gin store more than a year ago. Those looking to fill up had to travel more than 20 miles for fuel in the meantime. Unleaded 86-octane and highway diesel fuels are now available at the unattended pumps, via credit or debit card transaction only. | TEXAS SPUR; COURTESY GRAPHIC
