Our craft nights at the library are still not on a regular schedule, but as time goes by more and more are coming back. The past couple of years has been hard on everyone. Not only have we had to deal with a global pandemic, we had a winter like no other at the first of 2021. Hopefully 2022 will be a great year.
If all goes as anticipated in next November’s state representative elections—and in conservative West Texas, there’s not much reason to think it won’t—residents of Dickens and Kent Counties will be among those getting to know a new legislator who’s already served the Lubbock area for four terms.
After the often lonely, cold and dark days of the pandemic Christmas season of 2020, Spur, Texas, is ready to have a healthier and happier celebration this year. (Can it really be that the day I’m writing this—December 13—is one year to the day since anyone received a Covid-19 vaccine? We hope everyone is vaccinated and feeling well these days!)
More than a dozen candidates—some incumbents, some challengers—have filed to be on the primary election ballot in Kent County. Interested candidates were required to file with county party chairs and pay a filing fee by Dec. 13 to get their names on the ballot.
The Gamma Eta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its meeting of December 6, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Spur. Fourteen members attended, with four of those member attending by Zoom. Gamma Eta also welcomed two visitors, Samantha Hardin of Spur and Area 12 coordinator Sonja Hanks from Snyder. Hanks brought greetings from Texas State Organization president Shalan Inmon and shared information concerning the TSO Lubbock Convention scheduled for June 2022.
FLOYDADA—The Floydada Chamber of Commerce has announced that this year’s Santa on the Square will be Thursday, Dec. 16 at Nutthouse Designs in downtown Floydada. Santa Claus will arrive at 5:15 p.m. to start welcoming all the children and will stay until 6:30 p.m., according to chamber manager Kortney deBock. The Chamber invites members of the community to bring the kids and a camera.
