Spur library awarded $7,850 Tocker grant for automation; new system to be implemented this week

The Dickens County Spur Public Library has received an automation upgrade grant in the amount of $7,850 from the Tocker Foundation, according to library director Donnice Carruth.

THE NEW STANDPIPE TOWER providing water to the City of Dickens is nearly complete after work began several weeks ago. According to city secretary Lillian Atkinson, construction is “going like clockwork,” with the tower almost done and the top being installed. Water customers should not notice any change in their service when the switch is made to the new tower, Atkinson said, and no interruption of water service should be required. The contractor is L. Howard of New Deal, Texas.

The only blemish on the Spur Spurettes’ varsity girls district record is a loss to the Jayton Lady Jays on January 18 in Jayton. When the Lady Jays come calling Friday in Spur, the Spurettes are certain to want to offer them the same reception.

DETERMINING DISTRICT The Spur Spurettes will host the Lady Jays of Jayton Friday night in Spur. Jayton is undefeated and Spur has one loss—to Jayton. If Spur wins, they will be poised to be co-champions of the district with Jayton. If Jayton prevails, they will be positioned to win the district outright. Both teams have two other games to play, but they both play teams that are below .500, which should play in their favor for a district title pursuit.
