In its regularly scheduled meeting the morning of February 24, 2020 in Jayton, Kent County Commissioners heard the bi-monthly report from administrator Bobby Simpkins and also reported that the recent consulting contract with Loree Tamayo Consulting Inc. had been concluded. The organization will leave open the possibility of requesting assistance as needed.

SPUR VISITOR CENTER The Spur Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes visitors to stop by the Welcome Center for tourism and local information, coffee and conversation at 101 Hill Street at Burlington Avenue, Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. when volunteers are available. In January the local [Spur City] Council approved a variance for a 5-7 space RV Park to be placed in the residential area at 402 [East] 2nd Street, directly across from one of our parks. One stipulation was to contact neighbors by letter that lived in the immediate area. Only about 12 landowners were contacted, which left 4 households with families no say-so at all.

In preparation for the possibility of severe spring storms, Dickens County Emergency Management coordinator Wess Abbott offered information for our readers on storm shelters and warning sirens.
