OVERBO GOOD-BYE The Kent County Lions Club wished former JGISD Superintendent Trig Overbo a farewell at their meeting Monday. In making the presentation to Overbo they noted that he has contributed to their club for almost eight years, not only through his attendance and updates on school activities, but also in volunteering at Lions’ events. In appreciation President Daryl Ham wished him well in his new position as superintendent of the Glen Rose school district.
The UIL has extended basketball playoff round certification deadlines due to the winter weather that began impacting the Lone Star State earlier this week. Currently, there are 26 bidistrict round games that have yet to be played, and coaches are looking to next week to get their respective game in due to weather-related issues.
According to the events page www.texas4-h.tamu.edu, the highly anticipated annual 4-H Day at the State Capitol has been canceled for 2021. In most years, this day is designed for 4-H members to learn more about our state legislative process, see legislators in session, and to visit with their respective elected officials.
SPUR FCS FCCLA COMPETES Spur members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Family and Community Sciences organizations competed over the weekend on projects that many had been preparing since October.
PLAYOFF BOUND Spur Bulldogs hoist Preston Pafford onto their shoulders after Saturday afternoon’s victory over the Guthrie Jaguars. Pafford’s 3-point buzzer beater won the game 63 to 62 in overtime.
BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS The Jayton Lady Jays varsity girls basketball team defeated the O’Donnell Lady Screamin’ Eagles 42 to 37 to win the bi-district crown. Depending on weather the Lady Jays were slated to play Whiteface Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m. at Lubbock Christian High School.
The Spur Spurettes defeated Guthrie Friday night 36 to 25 at the Domes in Spur to become the undefeated (10-0) district champions for the 2020-21 season. Spur finished first, Guthrie second and Jayton third. All earned a berth to the playoffs. Jayton plays first Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Slaton versus O'Donnell.
