TOP PERFORMANCE Spur Dollar General manager Becky Blackburn-Vargas recently earned a commendation from the corporation recognizing her achievement in the multimilliondollar company’s top 5 percent of its performance matrix. “It’s an honor to be inthe top 5 percent of the company,” Blackburn-Vargas posted on her Facebook page, along with thanks to friends and family for their support, and to the local community for patronage of store #18990.

Dickens County 4-H Horse Club Play Day Series

For the upcoming season of 4-H Horse Cllub Play Day events, organizers have set four age divisions: Lead line, 6 and under; PeeWee; 8 and under; Junior; 9-12; Senior, 13-18. State 4-H horse show rules will apply. Participants must take part in at least two play days to be eligible for prizes. The Dickens County 4-H will provide a concession stand.

REGIONAL BOUND

REGIONAL BOUND The Jayton One Act Play production of "Treasure Island" was selected to advance to the regional OAP conpetition April 15 in Post. Jayton competed Monday night at the bi-district One Act Play contest in Spur against seven different OAP companies. Only two were selected to advance--Jayton and O'Donnell. The Jayton One Act Play was directed by Hillary Bleiker.

Spur Senior Citizens

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., will be serving a noon meal Monday through Friday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472. A donation is always appreciated. The cost for seniors over 60 is $4; everyone else is always welcome, for $8.

Gamma Eta celebrates 83rd birthday

The Gamma Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International celebrated its 83rd birthday March 1, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Spur. Eleven members and one visitor enjoyed a potluck meal, with three members joining the group by Zoom. Gamma Eta was organized on March 26, 1938, at the Hilton Hotel in Lubbock, Texas. Miss Ela Lee Carter, past president and honorary founder, was present for that first meeting.

Excellent season ahead for wild turkey

The forecast is in, and Rio Grande turkey season for Texas looks excellent. They had great production over most of their range the past couple of years— we even observed a single flock of 60 jakes in North Texas in 2020! Those birds are two years old now, and that means excellent hunting.
