AUSTIN— Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced this week he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 11.8 percent more than in May 2021.

The Kent County Lions Club enjoyed an educational program June 13 presented by Texas Parks & Wildlife biologists from the Matador Wildlife Management Area (named after the Matador Ranch but located between Paducah and Childress), who shared that in addition to wildlife research and management the area is also open for public use.

Dickens 4-Hers participate in state Roundup

This past week Dickens County state qualifiers attended state 4-H Roundup in Bryan. 4-H members included Melania Ramirez, Diezel Ramirez, Tory Childers, Kyle Schledwitz, Mackenzie Gardner, Jaydee Foster and Lyndee Foster. The youngsters competed in multiple events throughout the week, including Ag Product I.D., Horse Judging, Food Challenge, Educational Presentations, and Duds To Dazzle.

The Spur High School Class of 2023 scramble was held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the course in Swenson Park. One of the best things to me about living in a small town is the support and love given in all aspects of life. It is always especially very heartwarming to me to see the support of our community for the kids. Saturday was no exception! What a great day it was! Eighteen teams came out to play. A great time was had by all, and a good amount of money was raised to help these kids have an awesome senior trip.
