JAYBIRDS STOP BULLDOGS The Jayton Jaybirds varsity boys basketball team defeated the Spur Bulldogs last Tuesday night in Jayton 59–45. The Jaybirds moved to 3–0 in district with a 48–18 Friday night win over Paducah.
JAYTON AT STATE DEBATE Last week Jayton’s debate team and sponsors traveled to Austin to compete in the state debate competition. Alana Croft placed 8th out of 18 participants in district 1A.
SPUR HONORS Congratulations are in order to the Spur High School cheerleaders. At last week’s state cheer competition, they won Best in Category for Fight Song and came in 6th place overall.
KENT LIONS The Kent County Lions Club met earlier in January and decided to hold a Meet the Candidates forum on Thursday, Jan. 27 with dinner and bingo.
The #11-in-the-state Jayton Lady Jays varsity girls basketball team defeated the Guthrie Lady Jaguars 57-11 Thursday in district 5-1A play, bringing their record to 19–6 and 3–0 in district.

RANKED #8 The Jayton Jaybirds boys varsity basketball team is ranked #8 in the state in 1A. Last week they nearly defeated the Big Spring team, a 4A team. The Jaybirds narrowly lost 31-27 to the Steers. Tuesday night Jayton was to host the Spur Bulldogs. At press time, Jayton and Spur were tied for the district lead.
