The Gamma Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its January 10, 2022 meeting at Lubbock Christian University’s library. Ten members present enjoyed a meal provided by the Lubbock Hostess Group.
WINNING STREAK The Spur Spurettes continued on their district winning streak by defeating the Motley County Lady Matadors 63 to 20. The Spurettes are 20–6, 3–0 in district and at press time were ranked #22 in the state. They were to face the #11 Jayton Lady Jays Tuesday night in a big 5–1A clash. The Spur Bulldogs currently tied with the Jayton Jaybirds for the district lead were to face Jayton Tuesday night as well.
The 2022 Western Rolling Plains Chemical Conference will be held Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Spur Community Center in Spur, according to Dickens County Extension agent Rusty Lanier.
DISTRICT WIN The #11 in the state Jayton Lady Jays defeated the Motley County Lady Matadors in their district opener Friday night at home. They prevailed over Motley 71–25.
South Plains Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up will award a minimum of $20,000 in scholarships to South Plains Electric members. The scholarship is available to high school seniors who are members, spouse or child of a member, or those whose legal guardian is a member or landlord is a member.
Star Feed & Seed of Spur held its 2021–22 Big Buck Contest throughout deer season, with hunters harvesting animals in Dickens and adjoining counties eligible. Winners were announced last week in several categories.
