DISTRICT CHAMPS

DISTRICT CHAMPS The Jayton Jaybirds boys varsity basketball team and the Lady Jays girls varsity basketball team were both undefeated in district and each won their district championships. The Lady Jays have already won their first playoff game, defeating Crosbyton at Lubbock Roosevelt Monday night to win the bi-district crown.

Lady Jays come to Spur and take district in overtime battle with Spurettes

Before Friday night the Spur Spurettes had won 12 games in a row at home, and during a twisty-turny rollercoaster of a game with the lead changing every quarter that ended in a overtime-forcing tie, it looked like the #20 in the state Spur varsity girls basketball team just might upset the #11 in the state Jayton Lady Jays. But number 13 was not in the cards.

Valley added to Spur’s football district in realignment

The last time the Valley Patriots and Spur Bulldogs faced each other in a football game, they had each won their districts handily, defeated bidistrict opponents handily and packed Jackrabbit Stadium in Ralls handily for round two of the playoffs in November in pursuit of the state championship.

PLAYOFF BOUND

PLAYOFF BOUND The Spur Spurettes have finished as district runners-up to the Jayton Lady Jays and will either play O’Donnell or Petersburg in their playoff game. Both Petersburg and O’Donnell are tied at 6–3 right now in district. If they both won Tuesday night, they were to play a seeding game either Thursday or Friday.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER The Spur varsity girls basketball team served as mentors to younger female students. The "little girls" got to run out on the court with the "big girls" and witnessed first-hand one of the most exciting games of the year. The district title was on the line, and the game went into overtime.

BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFF IN LUBBOCK

BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFF IN LUBBOCK The Jayton Lady Jays will be playing Crosbyton Monday, Feb. 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Lubbock Roosevelt in their bidistrict playoff game.

ASPERMONT NOW IN AREA DISTRICT

ASPERMONT NOW IN AREA DISTRICT The Aspermont Hornets will join the Jayton Jaybirds and the Patton Springs Rangers in a newly configured District 5-1A, D2 football district. The last time any of these teams faced each other was September 2, 2021, when Jayton defeated Aspermont 45–0. In the past decade, Aspermont has been in the Jayton/Patton Springs district a couple of times, but in the previous realignment, was rotated out and now returns.
