Peach crumble a taste of summer as fall approaches

Crisps, crumbles, and cobblers are all in order this time of year, with seasonal, fresh fruit available at all the markets. I’m a big fan of cobblers that are made with pie crust dough. And crisps made with oats, and maybe a few nuts, offer warm notes a little later in the season when we start to crave fall desserts.

Summer is winding down, but not the heat. Spring planted greens are long gone so it would be great to have some heat-tolerant greens to enjoy. It may be too late this season to be enjoying some of these greens that can tolerate our summer but make a list for next year.

The Stonewall Memorial Hospital District, the parent company of clinics in Spur and Jayton and the hospital in Aspermont, is raising awareness of the Covid-19 Delta variant in this area, and communicating their protocols as precautions.

Spur Homecoming slated for Sept. 30-Oct. 2

The Roaring Twenties in the last century are depicted by jazz, flappers, new modern machines, flashy fashions and fun living. For the Spur 2021 Homecoming, exes and locals will be looking to see how the theme of the Roaring Twenties will be depicted through festivities that are scheduled for September 30, October 1 and October 2. Information was provided by Pat Hightower, Donnice Carruth, and other local sources and will be updated as more details are known.

Jason Nutt & Highway 70 set as headliners for Old Settlers Reunion dance Aug. 28

It’s rodeo time in Roaring Springs this month, and the closing event Saturday night will feature dance music by local favorites, the Lubbockbased Jason Nutt and Highway 70. They’ll take the stage at 9:30 p.m after Rex Thomas & Friends plays a free event at 5.

FedEx shipping now available inside Spur Dollar General store

Since the first of August, a new service has been added in Spur’s Dollar General store. Customers may now send and receive FedEx packages there. According to store management, there is a shelf behind the counter for both pickup and dropoff at the register.
